[edit section] February 7, 2007: Wikitokyo has a new home

It's taken some time and a lot of effort, but Wikitokyo is now up and running, fully functional, at a brand new home on the internet. For those who have been with us since first got started over on Brent's server, I hope the change isn't too jarring. For those who are just finding Wikitokyo for the first time, we hope you like what you see.

Most users aren't likely to notice the organization change, but it's worth mentioning the new administration. Wikitokyo is now brought to you by The #mt-talk Network and operated by Phydeaux, Sabyr, and CountAlpicola. Dapete and Brent Dax will remain sysops, with all of the privileges and responsibilities of that position they've always had.

This change gives us the opportunity to introduce a number of changes which we hope everyone will enjoy:

  • MediaWiki upgraded to the latest version.
  • Anonymous editing is allowed again.
  • Spam prevention with selectively applied captchas. (discuss)
  • A new user category, Trusted Editors, has been created.
  • A new color scheme, reflective of the #mt-talk network, is planned and under development.

[edit section] August 1, 2005: 100 Days & 150 Articles

It's been a few days since it happened… and as nobody else has done this, I hereby blantantly announce that I created article 150 on July 23, Seraphim Check¹. And although I did not realize this until I checked, as of today, Wikitokyo is also 101 days old.

Obviously the speed of adding new articles has dropped, but the overall quality and detail has improved, and nearly everything is covered in one way or the other.

Let's keep up the good work!

Dapete (talk)

¹Actually this is #151, but the real #150, List of Seraphim Check strips, was created at the same time.

[edit section] May 26, 2005: 100 Articles!

With Phydeaux's creation of Hitoshi, Wikitokyo has now reached 100 articles!

Wikitokyo is now 34 days old. Its cur table, which includes all the current versions of pages, is 1.4 megabytes, and its old table is 1.9 megabytes. You've also uploaded 1.1 megabytes of images. There have been 1,528 edits in all.

Great job, everybody!

[edit section] May 7, 2005: MediaWiki 1.4.4

I've upgraded Wikitokyo (and TCWiki) to MediaWiki version 1.4.4, the latest revision; both sites were previously using the ancient version 1.3.11. You'll probably notice a few subtle changes throughout the site; if you spot any bugs, please leave a note on my talk page.

One major change is the addition of patrolling. If you see a small "Mark this article as patrolled" link near the bottom of a page, and the page looks okay, click on the link to indicate that the change has been checked. Any changes that haven't been patrolled will be indicated on recent changes with a red exclamation point.

I also rebuilt the links table, which didn't accurately reflect the Help section. As a result, Special:Wantedpages is currently filled with crud. I'm working on cleaning it up, but it's slow going. Update: I fixed the most blatant problems, then hacked Special:Wantedpages to hide the rest of them. >.> Good enough for government work.

[edit section] April 26, 2005: McF's Megatokyo Reference

Forumite McFinnigan has given us permission to use material from his Megatokyo Reference page. While this material is somewhat out-of-date, the research that went into it is quite solid. Thank you, McF!

Fansite authors who want to allow their work to be integrated into Wikitokyo should contact me through his talk page or via e-mail or Megatokyo Forums PM.

[edit section] April 26, 2005: Software changes

Due to complaints about accidental anonymous edits, I've hacked in a warning that appears in orange at the top of the page. Hopefully this will help people avoid such mistakes—it's done so for me twice so far.

I've also written a Special:Templates page which lists all the templates on Wikitokyo.
